While you are in the Miami/ Miami Beach area on vacation or for whatever reason you are here you should take some time out and eat at one of the last great nostalgic restaurants in South Florida.
Wolfie Cohen's Rascal House restaurant is one of the last of its kind it is a trip in time back to the days when it was opened. First opened in 1954 Wolfie's rapidly became the place to be in Miami Beach, Fl. and from the beginning bigger was always better, large portions of food, a larger portion of attentive waitresses and good old fashion quality food.
Just walking into Wolfie Cohen's Rascal House is an experience in itself, the layout of the restaurant is simple and non-assuming and the booths with their vinyl seats look about like they did when the restaurant was new.
When you first walk into the restaurant you decide which line you should wait in depending on the number in your party and where you wish to sit. This is done due to the fact that it is always crowded. In the last twenty five years I have never walked right in and sat down, some type of wait should always be expected.
Wolfie Cohen's Rascal House is not a fast-food restaurant by any definition. There is a reason that you have food on the table as soon as you are seated, it is because the food is good, fresh and cooked when you order it. Eating at Wolfie's is an experience, even if you are a local and eat there everyday.
When you sit down at your table there are already bowels of pickles and pickled green tomatoes for you to nibble on. And then you look at the menu, and you soon realize that there are way too many choices. The menu has a wide variety of dishes including a large selection of authentic semi-traditional Jewish dishes.
Starting with the oversized Corned Beef Sandwich, Stuffed Cabbage and Brisket the food only grows as it reaches your table. And if the large portions of food was not enough, when you sit down they bring you a large plate of Danish Pastries and bread.
Wolfie Cohen's Rascal House continues to thrive even though it is not located in the sometimes overly trendy area of South Beach. Wolfie's is located on the north end of Miami Beach, past the high rises of Millionaires Row and the Village of Bal Harbour.
The north end of Miami Beach is as large of a tourist destination as South Beach is. The difference is that the tourists here are older. Access to the shopping areas of Miami and South Broward Counties is better from the north end of the Beach and this has helped Wolfie's to stay alive.
You can not say enough about the food at Wolfie Cohen's Rascal House, even if you do not have the time to stop in and eat, at least call ahead for take out. There is a full take out menu on their web-site.
With the type of food and service that Wolfie's offers it will be hard for it to go way. In the beginning Wolfie Cohen's was a destination spot for those who were out on the town and it is the same today. Stop in today while you are in town and have some of the best breakfast, lunch or dinner that South Florida has to offer. Eat their food, soak in their atmosphere and have a great and memorable time in Miami.
